For a footwear brand that has captured the imagination of thousands women in the UK and across the world, Butterfly Twists had an unlikely start in fashion life. In 2007, two brothers and their two oldest school friends made a bet that saw the unluckiest of them attending a party in a pair of six inch statement stilettos. What started as a joke, however, gave the boys – Emmanuel Eribo, Frank Eribo, Mark Quaradeghini and Philippe Homsy – the idea that would change their lives. A new found solidarity with the women enduring evenings out in towering heels started a conversation about footwear that might deliver a little glamour, without ruining a good night out. Also, it took two years to assemble a design team who could combine a consideration for style and luxury with comfort and versatility, and source manufacturers who could patent the featherweight, flexible sole that the brand would become known for. The collection debuted in London in 2009, dedicated to the aching toes and glamour-cravings of its most stylish inhabitants.
Inspired by music, culture, and the people who surround them, Brixton is the collaboration of three friends who wanted to convey their lifestyle through unique products.
Created in 2004, the timeless and clean design of the Brixton collection is hard to duplicate and comes in a variety of styles that appeal to the individual in a modern yet traditional way. Each piece is constructed with the commitment to bringing the customer a high quality and limited product that they'll want to hold onto forever.

Our story goes back to 1997 when Martin and I met in the Product Design program at Art Center College of Design. We built a strong friendship through design collaboration and surf sessions in Malibu to wash off the prototype dust. After graduating we went our separate ways. Martin spent a decade designing snowboard boots for DC and Burton and I designed wetsuits for O'Neill in Santa Cruz.
In 2009 we both relocated to the San Francisco area. Martin was living the south bay and I was in the north bay, back where I grew up. Linking us was the raw beauty of the Golden Gate and its rich mix of ocean, bay and progressive urban culture. We saw a great opportunity to design casual footwear that combined amazing comfort with sophisticated styling - something the market was seriously lacking. We also recognized that just creating innovative footwear was not enough to be a compelling new brand, nor to feel complete as a human beings. We were inspired by a new generation of social entrepreneurs who were reinterpreting business as a powerful and sustainable platform for social good. We felt that a brand committed to a single social cause could be a very powerful vehicle for both transforming lives and empowering our customers.
So in 2010 we got busy building Freewaters. Martin and I started out with 2 desks in a tiny 500 square foot art studio. It was nestled in the trees about 30 minutes south of San Francisco, with Silicon Valley to the south and rugged beaches and farms to the west, just north of Santa Cruz. It ran on solar power and it was a quiet and meditative place - perfect for design inspiration. We dubbed it the Shaolin Temple.

Healthy Back Bag
The Healthy Back Bag was launched in the USA, the design was patented in 1994, and winged its way across the Atlantic in 2003. Since then the brand has gone from strength to strength and the Healthy Back Bag is now sold worldwide. So what has made these quirky bags so interesting to consumers and retailers alike? The answer to that is three-fold: The Healthy Back Bag is unique; in its shape, in its intelligent pocketing, in its extraordinary variety. Every Healthy Back Bag is amazingly comfortable, combining in equal measure, versatility, practicality and style. The Healthy Back Bag came about as an answer to a question that still plagues people all over the world “where can I get a shoulder bag that isn’t going to kill my back?” Not everyone wants to wear a fitted backpack every day. And so The Healthy Back Bag was born and through the collaboration of a designer leather craftsman, a doctor and a chiropractor, men and women alike now have a fashionable functional alternative to a backpack or single strap bag.

In 1904, former tennis and wrestling champ, Frank P. Mitchell partners with Scottish golfer Charles M. Ness to form a sporting goods store on Arch Street in Philadelphia, PA. Mitchell & Ness Sporting Goods specialized in handcrafted tennis racquets, gold clubs, and other equipment. In 1917, a teenage boy named Sisto Capolino travels from Italy to Philadelphia in need of work. At age 13, he begins working as a store clerk, sweeping floors, cleaning up, and living above the Mitchell & Ness store. Along the way, he learns English and becomes an apprentice-stringing tennis racquets and carving clubs. By 1924, Mitchell & Ness begins designing and manufacturing uniforms for high school, college, and semi-pro sports teams in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. In 1933, the company goes pro when the newly formed Philadelphia Eagles employ Mitchell & Ness as their official on-field outfitter. Mitchell & Ness’ success and reputation grows as the business expands to include two local major league baseball clubs, the Philadelphia Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies. At the same time, the Eagles begin to sport Mitchell & Ness apparel both on-field and off-field in new sweaters and jackets. Sisto takes over ownership bringing his son Peter into the business. In 1983, a man walks into Mitchell & Ness to have two game-worn baseball jerseys repaired. In attempting to do so, Peter discovers thousands of yards of discarded wool flannel, which inspires him to recreate vintage jerseys. On July 6, 1987, Sports Illustrated features Mitchell & Ness in the article “Baseball Flannels are Hot.” The article chronicles the growing popularity of sportswear as fashion, as well as Peter’s research methods. In 1988, Major League Baseball creates the Authentic Cooperstown Collection license-giving Mitchell & Ness exclusive permission to make player number jerseys. After the widespread success of the Cooperstown Collection, the NBA, NFL, and NHL grant Mitchell & ness licenses. The jerseys become increasingly popular among entertainers and atheletes, making frequent appearances in music videos and magazines After first obtaining the license for NBA headwear ten years earlier, by 2007 Mitchell & Ness is producing headwear for the NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA. The category continues to prosper within the assortment, and in some ways has become more synonymous with Mitchell & Ness than any of the brand’s other product lines. While trends come and go, Mitchell & Ness jerseys remain popular among sports’ greatest enthusiast: the true fan. In 2005, after numerous requests from collectors, Mitchell & Ness acquires its most recent license, the CLC College Vault label. A year later, Mitchell & Ness is granted the exclusive rights to reproduce Authentic Michael Jordan jerseys.

In 1997, jeffstaple walked into a boutique in New York City wearing a shirt he printed in his silkscreen class at Parsons School of Design. He had no intention of even wanting to start a brand. He walked out of that store with an order of 12 shirts. Staple was officially open for business. What started as a small T-Shirt line handmade by jeffstaple, grew organically and began to gain visibility in NYC. In the process of building this burgeoning brand, Nike asked jeffstaple in 2005 to create a special commemorative sneaker that would represent New York. The Staple Pigeon Dunk SB was conceived and lead to much fanfare upon its release and exposed Staple—as well as sneaker culture—to the masses.
@StaplePigeon is now a world renowned brand which reflects the gritty and never-ending energy New Yorkers (and all urban dwellers) possess. It not only exists as a representation of New York, but The Pigeon is also the influence behind Staple’s extensive apparel range and collaborative items available across the world. Inspired by street culture and design, Staple’s reach encompasses many different landscapes such as fashion, music, sport, and art.
TWO DECADES ON, STAPLE CONTINUES TO BE A POSITIVE SOCIAL CONTAGION.
